The layered subject of well attended gallery spaces, old masters, sculptures, visitor flurries, interior architecture, define a persistent aesthetic thrill of a seamless semiotic/symbolic experience. Finding a personal language, the ‘symbolic’, as psychologist, author, literary critic Julia Kristeva has it, individuates so you can connect with shared 'semiotic' spaces with confidence. Action drawing, marks, lines, flirting with tone determine my symbolic; impressions made in single sittings capturing life in full in the shared space of the public gallery. At its core, live fast-paced drawing is an ashamedly indulgent performative enterprise, ultimately resulting in the satisfaction of a perfectly unexamined people-pleasing pathology.
