Irena Posner works with sculpture and performance, using material as a conceptual structure through which desire is organised via allegorical figures of animals, hybrids, and bodily fragments. Rooted in ancient carving traditions and Hellenistic motifs, her work explores how these forms mediate questions of control, vulnerability, transformation, and longing. Animals, hybrid beings, and fragmented bodies recur as unstable figures occupying thresholds between human and nonhuman, intimacy and estrangement. Working primarily in stone, Posner uses labour-intensive carving to create a material dissonance between hardness and apparent softness. Through these tensions, her sculptures examine embodiment, desire, memory, ritual, and the shifting boundaries.
