K. Nikki Holy - Tender Revisions

£1,100.00

Paper, red thread

200 x 80 cm

This work began by asking where meaning lies and what remains when language is broken apart. I took a Bible, hole-punched every page and sewed the circles back together. The slow, repetitive act of stitching gradually shifted the work towards histories of women's labour, skill and care. Meaning is not erased but transformed, emerging through material, gesture and the embodied act of making. What began as a slightly aggressive act gradually became something gentle and tender. The Bible had belonged to my father, and I was surprised by how moving it was to spend so much time with it.
