O. Louise Penrice - Common Hours

£2,400.00

Handmade flax paper with linen thread armature

170 x 365 cm

Augustine’s observations on Time resist answer, and so does Common Hours.
Flax grows in seasonal time. Retted, beaten and transformed by hand, it carries the slow accumulation of hours within its structure. Each panel bears the labour of its making.
The Unknown Tomb was prepared for a body that never arrived, an identity lost. It has waited for centuries. As light moves through the paper, shadows fall across the stone, making visible a continual exchange between presence and absence. Common Hours does not measure time or explain it; it inhabits the ordinary hours of growth, making, waiting and return.

Please note that delivery is not included in the price. Delivery costs will be the responsibility of the buyer. The delivery method and payment will be arranged with Parker Harris after purchase, and Parker Harris will contact all buyers once their purchase is complete. Buyers will not receive the work until after the exhibition at Wells Cathedral closes on Saturday 7 November 2026. Works can be collected from Wells Cathedral on Sunday 8 or Monday 9 November 2026, 9.30am–4.30pm.
