T. Eleanor Lakelin - Column Vessel #1

£57,000.00

Horse-Chestnut burr, bleached

157 x 40 x 40 cm

Echoes of Amphora so far has embodied a tension between two dimensions of time: the century scale of human culture, rationality, and the search for formal perfection (i.e classical columns and amphora vessels), and the millennial scale of geological evolution and growth (epitomised in the vital and chaotic character of a burred tree). Installed in Wells Cathedral, an additional dimension of time is brought to bear: the historical lineage between Classical and Gothic cultural form.
