V. Caroline Burgess - Where have all the young men gone

£9,500.00

Hand-textured cotton organdie

4 x 100 x 230 cm

‘Where have all the flowers gone’ includes the words ‘Long time passing’. This line and my memorial refer to the cyclical nature of wars. Humanity never manages to break free from the cycle of destruction. And whilst a specific war may come to an end, the resulting grief endures for a lifetime. This too becomes an endless cycle as the sorrow passes to the next generation. Like the grave of the unknown soldier, the absent figure is a reminder of all wars past and present.

Please note that delivery is not included in the price. Delivery costs will be the responsibility of the buyer. The delivery method and payment will be arranged with Parker Harris after purchase, and Parker Harris will contact all buyers once their purchase is complete. Buyers will not receive the work until after the exhibition at Wells Cathedral closes on Saturday 7 November 2026. Works can be collected from Wells Cathedral on Sunday 8 or Monday 9 November 2026, 9.30am–4.30pm.
