Now in its 12th year, the Wells Art Contemporary (WAC) exhibition runs in Wells, Somerset, from Saturday 5 August to Saturday 2 September 2023.

The exhibition includes 28 site-specific works located throughout the Cathedral and its grounds, a gallery of over 130 artworks in the Cloisters (covering painting, sculpture, print, photography, drawing and more), and 4 further artworks contributed by our Community Project partners. It showcases works from artists based in Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Spain, Slovakia, Panama and the USA in addition to strong representation from the UK itself, and has been selected from over 3,000 submissions received this year.

Information for visitors

Wells Cathedral is open from 9am to 4.30pm seven days a week. Please be aware that it is a working building, and not just an amazing art gallery! If you are planning to visit, note that parts of the building (and therefore some of the artwork installations) are not accessible during the Cathedral’s public services - see here for timings.

Wells Cathedral operates an admission by donation policy which allows it to keep the doors of this historic and beautiful place open to all. The generosity of those visiting the Cathedral and the exhibition allows them to welcome more than 300,000 visitors every year.
